1-day class, maximum number of students: 4
The handplane is one of the fundamental tools of woodworking. It can be used to smooth rough lumber, flatten boards, shape, and joint. Moulding planes create intricate profiles for decorative or functional needs. This course will cover: historical development and types of planes, anatomy and operation, sharpening and tuning. You will have the chance to use classic tools like the Stanley 45, skew block planes, shoulder and dado planes, wooden-bodied moulding planes, smoothing, try, and jointers. Along the way you will learn principles of function and proper techniques.
This class is an excellent way to learn about and try different kinds of classic planes before you invest in your own set of tools. You are welcome to bring your own plane if you want to get to know it better.
